Position Summary
This position is responsible for operating Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting software, including creating, updating and modifying drawings or maps, as well as electronically filing the records for future use.  CAD Technician will work with a team of engineers to put engineering designs into a paper form that can be utilized to bid and build construction projects.  Projects consist primarily of water, wastewater and/or stormwater infrastructure improvements, with some road and site development work. The CAD Technician will also be responsible for working with engineers to strengthen/update existing CAD standards, such as plot file settings, line weights, colors, title blocks, and sheet layouts.  CAD Technician would ideally play an important role in maintaining CAD software licensing and advising engineering staff of CAD related training, software, and/or hardware needs. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • At least 2 years’ experience in CAD drafting with AutoCAD/Autodesk or similar software
  • Strong Computer Skills and Technical Capabilities
  • Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, Google Earth and Outlook
  • Ability to actively communicate with engineers/designers
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work with very little supervision
  • Ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to proactively engage designer with questions and concerns about project
  • Experience with GIS software is not required, but would be beneficial
Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree in drafting OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Computer or Engineering related field OR
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a CAD Operator
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in the State employed
